Live Storage Pallet Racking -
North West England

A North West based manufacturer contacted us based on a recommendation from one of their suppliers. Their brief was to design a suitable racking system for the storage of 800 chep 1000x 1200mm pallets. 400 with a total height of 2000mm and 400 with a total height of 1000mm. After carrying out a site survey and discussing the options with the warehouse manager, the procurement officer and health and safety officer it become clear that what ever racking system was installed it would have to work within their extremely stringent health and safety policies. The health and safety officers main concern was their current scenario where fork lift trucks shoot around the loading bays with high sided pallets in the same areas that other personnel are working. The warehouse manager wanted to utilise the use of their new range of reach trucks and needed a system which would not slow down unloading and the procurement officer wanted a racking system that would last and would have pay back benefits.

Based on this information, it became quite clear that the most suitable pallet racking system for the project would be a live storage racking system with a row of standard pallet racking in another area. Our project manager designed a suitable system 6 deep and 6 bays wide, pallets would be loaded onto the system at the loading bay and unloaded at the other end of the bay as and when needed. This system benefited all three parties, the warehouse manager was able to use his current range of reach trucks, the procurement officer's requirements for a quality, a long term racking system with an estimated payback period of 18 months was satisfied and the health and safety officer could guarantee the safety of their employees as the live storage pallet racking system prevented the need for trucks to move around the loading dock where people are working in the same area.

As an extra precaution we quoted for end of rack barriers to protect the sides of the racking system. The client was happy with the proposal and provided us with an order the same afternoon our proposal was handed over. The client required an extremely quick turnaround, so we arranged for our quality assured racking manufacturer to supply us with the materials and we doubled our installation workforce to ensure the project was installed as quickly and safely as possible. The client was over the moon with the racking system.
